partial image of a person clicking an image that is being projected from a computer. The image has tick boxes with a spectrum of smiley face emojis on them. The person is selecting the one that is most smiley. The finger selecting the smiley is inside a white frame and the rest of the potential responses are out of the frame implying that much of the picture is often missed.

Employee Engagement that actually works

Engagement surveys document engagement problems, they don't resolve them.

Their results also don't present the true picture: scores are positively inflated as respondents don't trust in their anonymity and the most disengaged, whose voice is most critical, don't complete them.

In addition, the output creates an unmanageable burden for central teams and leaders and any attempt to shift responsibility for issue resolution back to the people who identified the problems feels like passing the buck.

Yet engagement, or more to the point, disengagement, continues to be a very real problem - Gallup estimates that 34% of each disengaged employee's salary is being wasted, and that's before we factor in the cost of churn, and the less tangible brand impact.

So, isn't it time that we took a totally new approach?
